Room Ideas For The Traditional Style Of Decorating

Traditional decor is classic and enduring, combining luxurious rich fabrics with polished woods and beautiful leather furnishings.

The kind of furniture used in Traditional decor is Renaissance, Louis the IV, Queen Anne, and Chippendale. These furnishings are usually elegant pieces lavished with opulent carvings and rich dark woods.

The color palette for a Traditional style is mostly neutral. Use creams, taupes, ivory, golds, deep reds and browns and keep the floors dark and the walls a light color

Accessories play an important part of the Traditional style of decor as they help to soften the sometimes rigid lines of this style. Use accessories such as large floral arrangements, vases, mirrors, crystal chandeliers, oriental rugs and luxurious neutral color draperies to compliment this scheme.

Fabric choices are usually silk, velvet, soft plaids, and subdued floral patterns. Look for fabrics that are richly textured with tufted buttons and pleats to get that sophisticated look. Bring a little Traditional style into your home its simple, uncomplicated and time-tested.

Cottage Style Rooms - So Warm and Cozy

"Everyone can identify with a fragrant garden, with the beauty of a sunset, with the quiet of nature, with a warm and cozy cottage".
                                                                                                Thomas Kincade

Unpretentious and cozy that's what the cottage  style  of decor  is all about.  If you  love soft color palettes, natural fabrics, re-purposed furniture, and sweet florals, like I do, this style of decor is for you.

Basics of Cottage Style Architecture:
  • Beaded board
  • Exposed beams
  • White walls
  • Salvaged  wood

Elements of Cottage Style  Rooms:
  • Casual furniture
  • Eclectic mix of old and new accessories
  • Mixing flea market finds with new pieces
  • Blending floral patterns with neutral tones
  • Petite  stripes
  • Woven bakets and rugs
  • Adding cozy accessories such as knobby throws and blankets
  • Open shelving in the kitchen to display vintage wares

Those are just some of the elements of incorporating the cottage style. Just  remember to add character, warmth and above all your own personal touch with cut branches and  flowers  to  convey  a  fresh  and  cozy feeling.

Design a private and functional space by adding unique room dividers

Room dividers create a sense of privacy while adding more usable space to your interiors.

Interior decorators and designers use room dividers to:
  • Add character to a room space
  • To divide a room making it more efficient and functional
  • To create privacy within a room (home office)
  • Hide clutter
  • Home staging
  • Decorative focal point
Contemporary room dividers are bold, ornate and are made from unique materials such as leather, teak, wrought-iron and pleated fabric.

Below are a sample of room dividers from HGTV:

 talk about  privacy!

A mirrored ornate divider is used to hide clothes clutter

An entryway is defined thanks to the clever use of this divider

Creating more room space with dividers is affordable,  practical and beautiful.
